The effective way to find out if a Excel spreadsheet is recoverable is to try the demo version of Recovery for Excel on it. Download the Demo to evaluate the software.
Product specifications with lists of items recovered and not recovered is available at the Product Information page.
Note: Always backup your original corrupted Excel spreadsheet before proceeding with any recovery activity!
While the full version can recover complete spreadsheets, the demo will only recover a limited number of cells. Past this point, recovered cells will be replaced with generic placeholder text. If a cell is unrecoverable, it will not appear with the placeholder text. Please note that formatting, stylesheets and other elements may not be recoverable if they do not appear in the demo output.
Before using either the demo version or the full version of SecureRecovery for Excel, we strongly recommend making backups of all of your damaged spreadsheets.
Not necessarily. When cells are damaged or portions of your spreadsheet are unreadable, SecureRecovery for Excel replaces the damaged areas with blank space, which can result in a smaller file size. This typically does not affect the usability of the recovered files.
Some features (such as advanced formatting) may be supported or unrecoverable, which would also result in a smaller file size. Also, the demo version of the software almost always outputs a relatively small file, since recovered cells are entirely replaced with placeholder text.
This is normal. The damaged parts of your Excel spreadsheet will convert to zero size on output. The other common reason of file size decrease is when some of features of the original spreadsheet are not supported and therefore absent from the recovered spreadsheet. Demo-recovered spreadsheet is smaller because it mostly consists of demo placeholders than actual data.
SecureRecovery for Excel can recover Excel spreadsheets that have lost data due to corruption, deletion, virus damage or for various other reasons. It is a powerful tool with excellent ease of use and state-of-the-art features.
Yes, provided that the files were readable with Excel.
In very rare instances, this can occur due to corruption. We recommend accessing the original corrupted file in Safe Mode, which will allow SecureRecovery for Excel to replace complicated formulas with their values.
You can enable this option by checking the Safe Mode checkbox when selecting the files you want to recover. Safe Mode should only be necessary in extraordinary circumstances, so please contact our technical team with a detailed description of the issue if this occurs.
Yes. Command line access is available for Enterprise and Service license holders. It is not an available feature for Standard users.

xr.exe “”
Do not use angle brackets, and check to make sure that you have created an output directory before you attempt a recovery. To replace groups of symbols or individual symbols, use ‘*’ or ‘?’ respectively.
